Court Marriage in Mumbai: Step-by-Step Guide to Legal Wedding Registration

Court marriage in Mumbai is a legal procedure performed under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. It allows couples from any religion or caste to get married without any religious rituals. The process starts when both partners submit a “Notice of Intended Marriage” to the Marriage Registrar in the area where at least one of them has lived for 30 days. After filing, the notice is publicly displayed for 30 days to invite any objections. If there are no valid objections, the couple can fix a date for the marriage within the next 60 days. On the day of the marriage, both partners and three adult witnesses must be present. They sign a declaration before the Marriage Officer and the marriage is officially registered. Required documents include age proof, address proof, passport-sized photos, affidavits, and identity proofs of the witnesses. This simple, hassle-free method ensures that the marriage is legally recognized across India
